Report Cards, Reimagined: NEP-Ready Holistic Progress

A report card is the one document from a school that a family keeps. As Indian schooling moves toward a more holistic view of progress, the report card has to carry more than a column of marks — and the software behind it has to be flexible enough to let each school define what "progress" means.
Terms and grading must be configurable
Schools do not share an assessment calendar. Some run two terms, some three, some add periodic tests and practicals with distinct weightings.
Report card software that hard-codes a structure forces schools to distort their assessment to fit the tool. Terms, components and grading scales all need to be defined per school.
Marks entry should be the only entry
Teachers should enter a mark once. Aggregation, grade mapping and the printed report should all derive from that entry, with no intermediate spreadsheet.
Every transcription step between the answer sheet and the report card is a place where errors enter and hours disappear.
Scope results to the right academic year
This is a subtle failure mode worth checking. When a student is promoted, their new class shares a term name with the previous one. If results are not scoped to the academic year, entering a new term's marks can overwrite last year's record.
Ask the vendor directly how results are tied to an academic year, and test it with a promoted student.
Beyond marks
A holistic report draws on attendance, participation and teacher observation alongside assessment. Those signals already exist in a connected school ERP — attendance is recorded daily, teacher feedback is captured through the term.
The value of an integrated system is that the fuller picture can be assembled without asking teachers to compile it.
Make it readable for parents
A report is only useful if a parent understands it. Clear grade bands, a short teacher comment and a visible attendance figure communicate more than a dense grid of percentages.
Configurable terms, single-entry marks, year-scoped results and signals drawn from the wider system: that is what turns a report card from a scoreboard into a picture of a child.
